Adena Schools Hire New Superintendent

(Frankfort) – Adena Local School District has hired a new superintendent to fill the position that will be left by the retirement of John Balzer this Summer. The new district superintendent will be Dr. Matthew Unger. His tenure will officially begin August 1, 2023.
A press release provided to Litter Media from the district says- “His experience growing up on the family farm has shaped his views of the importance of a good education, and hard work. Dr. Unger has 28 years of experience in education as an agriculture teacher, Principal, CTC Director and Interim-Superintendent. He has a B.S. in agriculture education from Morehead State University, a M.S. in vocational education from Morehead State University, principal license certification from the University of Dayton, and a Doctorate in educational leadership from Ohio University.”
The release continued- “Dr. Unger is an advocate for connecting schools, communities, and industry to prepare students for current and future careers. He has worked collaboratively with the Appalachian STEM Collaborative, AOMC, and the Ohio Department of Education to advance personalized learning, and expand opportunities within the region. Dr. Unger has conducted extensive research in relationships involving schools, communities, parents, students, and staff. He has a passion for rural schools and communities where he works diligently to expand their voice.”
