Adena Volleyball Advances To District Final with Sweep of Oak Hill

Article Presented By Tomlinson Insurance…

The (21-3) Adena Warriors put all facets of their volleyball skills to work in a (25-9, 25-13, 25-12) sweep of (14-10) Oak Hill Tuesday in the Division 5 District Seminal win at Waverly High School.

The Warriors’ servers fired 7 aces, their defense dug the Oaks top hitters to keep several rallies alive, and Adena’s front row duo of Katie Burns and Corinne Day did their usual attacking and blocking to quiet much of Oak Hill’s offense.

Burns had 23 kills and 1 block, while Day added 9 kills and stuffed 6 blocks.

Set 1 saw Adena dash out to a 10-3 advantage before Oak Hill closed the gap to 10-6. But beyond that stage of the set, the Warriors went on a 15-3 run for a 25-9 victory and a (1-0) match lead.

The second set had the Warriors with an early 6-1 lead, but the Oaks closed the gap to 8-7, before Adena went on a 15-6 run for a 25-13 win and a (2-0) match lead.

Set 3 again saw Adena get out to an early 7-2 lead, but Oak Hill climbed to within 9-8. That’s when the Warriors 16-4 dash to the finish line gave them the 25-12 victory and the match sweep.

Besides Burn’s and Day’s combined 32 kills, Caroline Glandon added 2 kills, while Smith had 1 kill. Adyson Wisecup had 2 blocks and Jacey Jones added a solo block. Kimmy Dalton had 13 digs, Kamryn Sowers 9, and Smith with 7, Kayla Grooms 6 digs and 17 assists. Kortney Sowers 3 aces, 12 assists and 4 digs.

Oak Hill’s offense was led by Emma Figggins with 9 kills, while Reagan Adkins and Hunter Blevins each contributed 3 kills apiece. Alyssa Whitt had 1 kill. The Oaks also served 4 aces.

Adena advances to the district final against New Lexington in the second match of three at Waverly High School on Saturday, October 26th. New Lexington advanced past Chesapeake Tuesday by scores of (25-10, 25-13, 25-18).
