Area Schools Ready for 2022 Envirothon

(Laurelville) – Local conservation districts announce nearly 200 students have signed up for an academic competition at Tar Hollow on Tuesday.

Envirothon is an outdoor, academic competition. This area’s event has 189 high school students competing from nine counties in central and southern Ohio. Pike and Ross County will field a dozen teams from Adena, Huntington, Piketon, Southeastern, Waverly, and Zane Trace. Students and other FFA members are also travelling from Adams, Brown, Delaware, Franklin, Highland, Hocking, and Vinton counties.

Students will hike through Tar Hollow State Park and answer questions about soils, aquatics, forestry, wildlife, and the environment. The top four teams will advance to a state competition in June.

Students are representing schools this year from Manchester, Peebles, Eastern Brown, Fayetteville Perry, the Delaware Area Career Center, Bexley, Hillsboro, Lynchburg Clay, Greenfield McClain, Mowrystown FFA, Logan High School, and a home school team from McArthur.

Envirothon events are happening all over the state. This Area 5 event is co-sponsored by the Pike Soil and Water Conservation District, the Ross Soil and Water Conservation District, and Tar Hollow State Park.
