(Logan) – Experience the magic of the season like never before as the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) presents Christmas at Ash Cave, a festive event hosted by Hocking Hills State Park on Saturday, December 14th, from 5pm-7pm. Gather family and friends and meet at the Ash Cave parking lot, where a fun holiday tradition awaits.
“This event is a perfect blend of holiday cheer and the incredible natural beauty of Ash Cave,” said ODNR Director Mary Mertz. “It’s a magical way for families and friends to create lasting memories together while exploring one of Ohio’s most cherished outdoor spaces.”
As you stroll along the candlelit quarter-mile trail, let the glow guide you to Ohio’s largest recessed cave, a natural marvel steeped in history and beauty. The horseshoe-shaped Ash Cave, with its soaring 100-foot rim and 700-foot-wide span, provides the perfect backdrop for this holiday celebration.
During the event, you can also warm up with hot cocoa and cookies while you take part in seasonal activities that bring out the spirit of the holidays. Santa Claus will also stop by for the fun and you create heartfelt memories through hands-on crafts like popsicle stick decorations, pinecone bird feeders, and hand-dipped candles.
This event is more than a celebration of the season—it’s an opportunity to immerse yourself in the unique charm of Ash Cave, where nature and history come alive. Known for its exceptional acoustics and rich past, Ash Cave has long been a natural gathering spot, from early settlers holding Sunday services to today’s hikers marveling at its towering cliffs and, in winter, breathtaking ice formations.
Christmas at Ash Cave is free and open to the public, offering a chance for visitors of all ages to embrace the holiday spirit in one of Ohio’s most iconic natural settings.
