(Chillicothe) – The Assistance House of Ross County recently wrapped up a highly successful “scrub drive,” collecting donations of medical attire for nurses, aides, and medical assistants working in the local community.
Margaret Hill-Daniels, Board President of The Assistance House of Ross County—a charitable organization serving employed Ross County residents for over 100 years- recognized there was a growing need. “Scrubs are essential for anyone working in the medical field, but not everyone can afford to purchase them,” said Hill-Daniels. “We wanted to address that need and give back to the men and women who care for our most vulnerable population.”
Although the scrub drive was Hill-Daniels’ idea, it took a community effort to make it a success. Assistance House board members, volunteers, and several generous local businesses came together to support the cause. The Chillicothe Ross Community Foundation donated the seed money, Sparkle Cleaners laundered all of the scrubs, and three local businesses donated items for a raffle: Old Canal Smokehouse, Olive Garden and Picture This.
“The response was overwhelming,” said Cat Thatcher Bowen, the newly elected Executive Director of The Assistance House of Ross County who spearheaded the drive. “We had boxes and bins of scrubs pouring in from the community. It was truly heartwarming to see such generosity.” When asked about the amount collected, Thatcher Bowen estimated, “six or seven large bins filled with scrubs—tops, bottoms, and all sizes. Being involved with this new program from the very beginning is something really special.”
As for the possibility of hosting another scrub drive, Hill-Daniels was optimistic. “Our mission is to serve the working men, women, and families of Ross County. We will continue to do whatever we can to support that mission.”
