(Chillicothe) – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) has confirmed the presence of Avian Influenza in waterfowl at Yoctangee Park. This announcement follows routine surveillance and testing conducted by wildlife health officials.
While the risk of transmission to humans is low, the Chillicothe Parks and Recreation Department urges residents to take the following precautions:
• Avoid direct contact with wild birds and their droppings.
• Do not handle sick or dead birds. Report any sightings to ODNR at 1-800-WILDLIFE.
• Keep pets away from waterfowl and their habitats.
• Follow proper hygiene practices, such as washing your hands thoroughly after visiting parks.
The ODNR and local wildlife health officials are actively monitoring the situation and will continue to conduct testing and surveillance. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
