Chillicothe’s Brandon Noel prepares for a dunk in their Cavs’ tournament win in 2020.

Brandon Noel Transfers to Ohio State

Article presented by Accurate Heating, Cooling & Plumbing

After a stellar career at Wright State University, 2020 Chillicothe alumnus Brandon Noel is the newest addition to the Ohio State Buckeyes Men’s Basketball Team.

In a text exchange with Litter Media, the 6’8” Noel said there were a variety of influences that drew him to OSU. “Lots of things drew me. Good people on the staff, the chance to win a lot of games, to play with the good players they have there, being able to play close to home for the team I grew up watching on tv and going to games to watch.”

Now there’ll be a lot of eyes from south central Ohio watching him.

Two of the last Chillicothe products to be on a Buckeyes Men’s Basketball roster are in the CHS Athletic Hall of Fame. One is Mark Bayless (OSU 1974-76) and the other, Neil Johnston (OSU 1946-48), who has a statue in his honor erected outside Hatton Memorial Gymnasium.

Noel enrolled at Chillicothe High School his sophomore season from Lucasville Valley. He averaged 16 points and 8 rebounds per game his final season as a Cavalier, helping Chillicothe to back-to-back Frontier Athletic Conference titles. He accepted an offer to attend Wright State University where he redshirted his freshman and sophomore years -and then he began to flourish. He played in 97 games with the Raiders, starting 90 while averaging 15.5 points per game and 8.1 rebounds per game, tallying 1,507 and 789 respectively over three seasons.

“The people at CHS and WSU were always willing to help me”, said Noel. “I was never alone at any of those places and their belief and support helped push me to get better at all times.”

The move to Ohio State has Noel leaping for joy. “I can’t wait, so much knowledge and experience on the staff. It’s a change for me to learn a lot and get better my last year of college hoops. The vision they have for this next year is great and something I wanted to be a part of. Excited to get to Columbus and start working.”

Noel earned his degree at Wright State and began working on a Master’s in Chemistry and plans to continue toward the degree in Columbus. He’ll also have some work to do getting familiar with his new teammates.

“Other than meeting several of them on a visit, these guys will all be new to me which will be fun to get to know them all and work towards a common goal”, said Noel.

Jake Deibler’s Buckeyes finished the 2024-25 campaign 17-15 while missing the NCAA tournament. Noel is the third newcomer to the Bucks roster in recent weeks. Ohio State received commitments from guard Gabe Cupps (Indiana U.) and 7-foot center Christoph Tilly (Santa Clara).
