City of Chillicothe To Implement Back To School Traffic Safety Plan
Article Presented By Pickaway Ross CTC Adult Education…
(Chillicothe) – As the Chillicothe City School year begins, the City of Chillicothe is implementing a targeted traffic safety plan from August 18–29, 2025. In coordination between Mayor Luke Feeney, Safety Service Director Jeff Carman, and Police Chief Ron Meyers, this initiative is designed to protect students, staff, and drivers by addressing increased traffic around school zones and promoting safe driving behaviors.
(Target Areas)
Primary School: Chestnut, Mill, and Cherry Streets will be monitored during peak times from 6am-7am and 1:30pm-2:15pm.
Intermediate School: Arch Street will be monitored during peak times from 6:30am-7:15am and 2pm-2:30pm.
Middle and High School: Yoctangee Parkway will be monitored during peak times from 7:30am-8:15am and 2:45pm-3:30pm.
(Enforcement)
Officers will be assigned to designated school zones during peak traffic hours. Officer enforcement will focus on speeding, stop sign violations, illegal U-turns, improper parking during pickups, pedestrian crosswalk violations, and distracted driving. Parents are reminded to watch for crossing guards and obey their signals, never pass a stopped school bus with flashing lights, and use only designated drop-off and pick-up areas. Double parking or stopping in the roadway to let children out is prohibited.
This two-week focus period will help the community adjust to school-year traffic patterns and help the City develop a long-term traffic safety strategy for the remainder of the year. Extra travel time should be allowed during the first weeks of school.
