Columbus Air Show Kicks Off With Open House June 12th

Article Presented By Scioto Valley Dumpsters, LTD.

(Lockbourne) – The Village of Lockbourne, Rediscover Lockbourne, and the Ohio Memorial Chapter Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. invite you to an Open House for the Lockbourne/Rickenbacker Air Force Base Memorial Wall Project, and to celebrate the 2024 Columbus Air Show.

The event will take place on: Wednesday, June 12, 2024 between 3pm-7pm at the Lockbourne Historical Hall & Event Center at 206 Vause Street, Lockbourne Ohio (adjacent to Lockbourne Veterans Park, 95 Landis Street)

The Memorial Wall will observe the history and contributions of Rickenbacker Airport/ National Guard Base, formerly called Lockbourne Air Force Base.

The Lockbourne Air Force Base was originally established in 1942 in support of WWII and has also served as home to:

Women’s Air Force Service Pilots (WASP) training in the B-17 Bombers, last home of the Tuskegee Airmen, military units serving the Cold War and the War on Terrorism, LIMA Company, and the Ohio National Air Guard 121st Air Refueling Wing.

Highlights of the Base’s history and contributions to the Columbus region, State of Ohio, and our nation will be commemorated on the Memorial Wall with photo etchings and words on black granite. The Memorial Wall will also serve as a tribute to all who served and continue to serve on the Base, while recognizing its role in history and contributions to our local culture and economic prosperity.

To learn more about Central Ohio’s military history, please RSVP by June 7, 2024 to Mayor Christie Ward at (614) 491-3161 x 4 or mayor@lockbourneohio.us
