Article Presented By Litter Quality Propane…
(Columbus) – This summer, the Summer Youth Work Experience program unfolded across Ohio for students with disabilities aged 14-21. The program led by Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) provided valuable on-the-job training and insights into the world of work, setting the stage for brighter futures.
A total of 3,215 students participated in summer jobs, while additional younger students were guided in preparing for their first work experiences. These hands-on opportunities not only help build essential job skills but also boost confidence as students explore their interests in a supportive environment.
In collaboration with 935 distinct employers and 1,693 diverse job sites, each student was matched to roles that suited their unique abilities, all while receiving assistance from dedicated job coaches. Throughout the program, students earned minimum wage, gaining real-world experience that paves the way for future career success.
These experiences were made possible through a partnership with 73 providers across the state, all of whom are committed to supporting young individuals in their professional journeys.
If you have a child aged 14 or older with a disability, contact OOD for more information on how we can assist your child with career exploration, skill development, and strategies for securing employment or pursuing post-secondary education after graduation. Starting in the fall, counselors begin discussing opportunities with students and their parents for the following summer. To find out more, visit the OOD Students 14+ webpage.
