(Chillicothe) – When Meygan Richter and Noah Colley welcomed their second child into the world January 2, they were able to celebrate not only the first birth of 2025 at Adena Regional Medical Center, but one of the first babies of a new generation.
The Wheelersburg couple’s son, Neo – a nod to Noah’s enjoyment of “The Matrix” films – was born at 8:17pm, about a week before his due date. He was eight pounds and 21 inches long and became the younger brother of the couple’s other child, 19-month-old daughter Murphy.
Neo’s decision to enter the world a bit early came as a surprise to Meygan and Noah.
“I had a doctor’s appointment Thursday, but I woke up early and did the dishes and my water broke,” Meygan said. “I thought, ‘He beat us to the punch, I guess.’”
Despite having to travel to Chillicothe, the couple chose Adena Health for both their pre-natal care and the births of both of their children. From the physicians and midwives who provided Meygan’s care throughout the process to the nursing and support staff and facilities, the couple said they were treated with a very personal touch, which made the choice to come to Adena an easy one.
“It feels like Adena values you as a person,” Noah said. “Their time and knowledge and the way they educate you, the way they make you feel comfortable and make sure your baby is doing well, we really felt that, which makes a big difference.”
“Other than not expecting Neo to come when he did, everything went according to plan and was real easy,” Meygan added, offering a special thanks to nurse midwives Jaclyn Fraley and Natasha McCoy for the care they provided.
She also was very pleased with how involved Noah was permitted to be with the labor and delivery process.
The couple was pleasantly surprised to learn that Neo was among the first babies born under the umbrella of a new generation. Babies born in 2025 through 2039 have been designated as Generation Beta, a generation defined, in part, as those who will be coming of age alongside significant technological advancements, including the ongoing development and maturation of artificial intelligence.
“That’s awesome,” Meygan said. “What a fun fact.”
The couple was presented a gift basket filled with newborn essentials for having the first baby of the year at the hospital delivered as the result of spontaneous labor that was not induced or scheduled.
