Former Circleville Fire Chief Passes Away at Age 86

(Amanda) – Former Circleville City Fire Chief Ronald Rex (Ronnie) Sowers of Amanda, Ohio, passed away on December 18th at HCA Florida Highlands Hospital, in Sebring, Florida. He was 86. Opening his firefighting career in Tarlton in 1963, Sowers tranfered to Circleville Fire Department in 1966 becoming lieutenant in 1970, assistant chief in 1976, then chief in 1979 where he remained as the department’s leader intil retirement in 1990. He also served as President of the Ohio Fire Chiefs Association and as Clearcreek Township clerk. 

The funeral will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025 at 1pm at Taylor-Theller Funeral Home, 111 West Main Street, Amanda, OH 43102. The family will receive friends from 11am until the time of the service on Monday. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery, Stoutsville.

In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to Meals on Wheels of Fairfield County, 1515 Cedar Hill Road, Lancaster, Ohio 43130
