Article Presented By Kingston National Bank…
The Huntington Huntsmen broke open a close game midway through the second quarter Friday to defeat the Adena Warriors 40-14 in SVC Football at Bostic Field in Frankfort.

What had been a back-and-forth affair through much of the first half, saw Adena take their last lead of the contest at 14-12 with 9:50 left in the second quarter. The Huntsmen then took over the game, driving 64 yards in 9 plays to take a lead they never relinquished the rest of the night.
That was the first of four unanswered touchdowns, which saw Huntington taking a 28-14 advantage at halftime, then scored two more times in the third quarter.

The Huntsmen piled up 371 total yards in the game with 249 on the ground and Frankie Hirsch throwing 12/17 for 122 yards and 3 TD’s. Dalton Nichols (pictured, being congratulated by his teammates) caught two touchdown passes and caught a two-point conversion to be named Litter Media Radio’s “McDonald’s Player of the Game.”
Isaac Taylor rushed for 93 yards on 16 carries and scored one touchdown. Evan Thomas added 52 yards and scored one touchdown. Frankie Hirsch also scored on a 3 yard run and LJ Cooper caught a 15 yard scoring pass from Hirsch.
Adena moved the ball well in the first half, scoring on drives of 57 yards in 7 plays and 59 yards in 5 plays. But, four turnovers hampered the Warriors from doing any more with their offense as Huntington’s defense held them to 181 total yards. Adena rushed for 110 yards and quarterback Ethan Elick completed 7 of 10 passes for 71 yards and one touchdown. Fisher Schaaf and Hunter Williams scored both of the Warriors’ touchdowns, with Schaaf catching a 25 yard pass and Williams running for a 29 yard TD.
Huntington improves to (4-2/6-3), needing a win at home next Friday against Piketon, and possibly some help in order to get to the playoffs with a (7-3) mark.
Adena falls to (2-4/3-6) on the season.
