Hearing Scheduled For Scioto County Transmission Line Project

Article Presented By Classic Brands…

(Wheelersburg) – The Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) will hold a local public hearing regarding AEP Ohio Transmission Company’s proposal to construct the Althea-Sweetgum Transmission Line Project in Scioto County. AEP proposes to build a 138 kilovolt (kV) overhead electric transmission line between proposed AEP substations in Porter and Green townships.

The hearing is scheduled for:

August 8, 2023, at 5 p.m.
Wheelersburg Middle School
800 Pirate Drive
Wheelersburg, Ohio 45694

The project is approximately two miles south of the city of Wheelersburg. The northern endpoint of the project is the proposed Sweetgum Substation, located adjacent to Mill Road and approximately 0.2 miles east of State Route 522. The southern endpoint of the project is the proposed Althea Substation, located on the east side of US Route 52 and west of State Route 1. The project is part of a larger area improvements project to address a baseline thermal criteria issue associated with the Millbrook Park-Franklin Furnace 69 kV Transmission Line in Scioto County.

The purpose of the local public hearing is to allow individuals to provide sworn testimony regarding the proposed transmission line. Testimony will be limited to five minutes per witness, and the hearing transcript will become part of the case record considered by the OPSB.

Witnesses will register when they arrive at the hearing and will testify in the order in which they register. If a witness wishes to supplement their testimony with an exhibit, a copy of the document should be provided to the administrative law judge during the hearing.

The evidentiary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 7, 2023, at 10 a.m., in Hearing Room 11-C, at the offices of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, 180 East Broad Street, 11th Floor, Columbus, Ohio 43215. During the evidentiary hearing, the applicant, OPSB staff, and any intervening parties will provide expert testimony and evidence regarding the proposed transmission line.

Additional information regarding the proposed transmission line is available on the OPSB website at www.OPSB.ohio.gov in case number 22-0857-EL-BTX.
