Hiland Erupts for 10 Run 5th Inning To Beat Southeastern in D-6 Regional Championship

Article Presented By The Bean Foundation…

One inning can make a difference in a baseball game. A scoreless game pitchers duel between the (29-1) Hiland Hawks and the (16-11) Southeastern Panthers saw an offensive explosion by the Hawks in the bottom of the fifth inning as they scored 10 runs for a “run-rule” 10-0 victory for the Division 6 Regional Championship.

Hiland’s Kaden Kandel got the fateful inning started when he reached first. Caden Coblentz followed with a single. Mike Miller singled to loade the bases. Colin Coblentz flew out to shallow left preventing the runners from scoring. But then came Grady Manigold’s bases loaded 2-run single to right for a Hiland 2-0 lead. A Southeastern error scored another run for 3-0 lead. Danny Hostetler singled in Manigold from second making it 4-0. Logan Yoder then singled placing runners at first and second with still only 1 out. Keith Hershberger walked to load the bases. A single by Cade Beachy makde it 5-0 Hiland and kept the bases loaded. Kaden Kandel walked to score a run for a 6-0 advantage. Southeastern changed pitchers, but Caden Coblentz drew another bases loaded walk for 7-0 score. The Hawks’ Mike Miller was at the plate when Beachy scored on wild pitch for an 8-0 lead. Following a strike out that finally made 2 outs in the inning and with runners at second and third, Hiland’s Colin Coblentz ended the game by belting a 2-run double to win the game 10-0 in 5 innings.

Southeastern concludes their season at (16-11) as regional runner-up and the saw their baseball program go on its deepest run in post-season history. Congrats to Coach Ron Free and his squad on a great tournament run.
