
Hillsboro To Play for State Softball Title Advancing Past Lakeview 7-1 In Semifinal

The Lady Indians of Hillsboro continue on their historical ride in the State Final Four and will now play for a Division 4 State Softball title Thursday following a 7-1 victory of (22-5) Cortland Lakeview. Hillsboro now faces Springfield Kenton Ridge in the championship game at 3pm Thursday, following Kenton Ridge’s 5-4 win over Lexington.
Lakeview struck first against Hillsboro, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on wild pitch.
Hillsboro answered to tie the contest 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning when Chloe Roberts walked, Isabelle Brunck singled, Addie Huff grounded out with Brunck advancing to second with Roberts advanced to third. Addley Miller grounded out to second, scoring Roberts to tie game 1-1.

The Lady Indians took the lead for good in the top of the fifth inning. Mylea Fridley drew a two-out walk, followed by Cameron Spruell’s single. With runners at first and second. Roberts put through an RBI single to score Fridley for the 2-1 lead. Isabelle Brunck followed with a single up the middle scoring Spruell for a 3-1 advantage. The Hillsboro hit parade continued with a single from Huff- scoring Roberts for a 4-1 score.
Hillsboro added three more runs in the top of the sixth inning as they loaded the bases via a single, error, and a batter hit by a pitch. With two outs, Roberts walked to score pinch-runner Rilynn Swisshelm for 5-1 lead. The Lady Indians poured it on with two more runs and a 7-1 lead as Brunck singled to right field, scoring Spruell and Fridley.
Lakeview saw three get on base in the bottom of the seventh, but Hillsboro’s pitching ace Cameron Spruell shut them down for the 7-1 victory.
Big offense came from Isabelle Brunck’s 3 for 4 day at the plate with 3 RBI’s. Chloe Roberts was 2 for 2, knocking in 2 runs. Hillsboro had 9 hits for the game. Cameron Spruell worked a complet game, scattering 4 hits, fanning 13 batters and walking 5.
The (23-3) Lady Indians face (31-0) Springfield Kenton Ridge for the state championship Thursday at 3pm. Kenton Ridge advanced with a 5-4 win over Lexington.
