HS Wrestling: Teays Valley’s Ava Miller Makes History; Updated Results Heading into Day 2

Less than 48 hours following International Women’s Day, a high school junior made Ohio sports history for young women.

Teays Valley’s Ava Miller became the first winner in the newly sanctioned OHSAA Girls State Wrestling Meet at the Schottenstein Center on the campus of Ohio State University. The victory advanced Miller to the quarterfinals of the 105 Weight Class.

It took Miller 2:52 to pin West Union’s Scotlyn Adams to log the tournament’s first decision, improving her season mark to 38-2. Adams then pinned Ashlynn Pennington of Alliance in just 45 seconds in her first consolation round match.

Updated results following Day 1. 2Twenty-eight wrestlers in bold are still alive for Day 2.  Saturday’s second session begins at 9:30am with Quarterfinals and Consolation Round 2 with Session 3 including Semifinals and Consolation Quarterfinals at 5:30pm. Session 4 Consolations begin at 9:30am Sunday with Championship matches will beginning at 5pm.
