Huntington Ends Football Season With 27-21 OT Win Over Adena

The regular season close for Huntington and Adena football came down to an overtime thriller, as the Huntsmen defeated the Warriors 27-21.

The Huntsmen darted out to a 21-0 start, only to see Adena rally to tie the game with 5:28 in regulation. Huntington gained the victory after holding the Warriors on a fourth and inches in overtime, then scoring on their first possession for the win.

Huntington’s Isaac Taylor is the Litter Media Radio “McDonald’s Player of the Game”, rushing for 103 yards and two touchdowns, including the 20 yard game-winner on overtime.

The Huntsmen had 269 total yards, with 195 of those on the ground. Adena was held to 176 total yards, where quarterback Darian Thomas threw 10/15 for 90 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 33 yards while Austin Magill had 43 yards.

Huntington overcame 9 penalties for 110 yards.

Huntington opened the scoring with Dalton Nichols 81 yard kickoff return for a score. That went to 14-0 at 2:08 of the first quarter when Isaac Taylor ran 19 yards to cap a 75 yard/12 play scoring drive. The margin extended to 21-0 at 11:08 of the second period on a 74 yard/4 play drive, concluded by a Wes Hamilton 7 yard scoring run.

Adena got on the scoreboard at 8:42 of the second quarter with a Darian Thomas 14 yard TD pass to Joey Francis, capping off a 4 play/17 yard drive set up by Thomas’ kickoff return. The Warriors close the deficit to 21-13 when Tomas scored on a 1 yard run at 3:58 of the second period, but the extra point kick was blocked. Adena’s final score tied the game with 5:28 remaining in regulation, when they marched 86 yards in 10 plays and scored on a 21 yard pass from Thomas to Fisher Schaaf making it 21-19. The two-point conversion was a Thomas to Austin Magill pass to even it at 21-21.

Both teams had possessions in the closing five minutes, but neither could score, until Huntington won it in OT.

Huntington closes their season at (2-5/3-7) and Adena slipped to (1-6/3-7).
