Logan Elm (4-0) With 40-19 Win Over Rival Circleville

The big rivalry game known as the “Kingston National Bank Backyard Brawl”, will see that trophy remain with the (1-0/4-0) Logan Elm Braves, as they beat the (0-1/0-4) Circleville Tigers 40-19.

The Braves took advantage of a fumbled second half kickoff return, to turn the tide of the game that resulted in Logan Elm outscoring the Tigers 20-6 in the second half. Circleville had cut a two touchdown deficit to 20-13 at halftime, but the miscue to start the second half seemed to take the air out of the Tigers’ sails.

Both teams took game opening drives for scores, with Logan Elm scoring on a 63 yard/3 play drive at 11:10 of the opening quarter, when quarterback Aaron Walters connected with Hunter Kersey on a 58 yard scoring strike. The PAT kick made it 7-0 Braves.

Circleville answered with a 64 yard-17 play scoring drive as Hudson Phalin threw a TD pass to Drew Thornsley from 7 yards out at 3:38 to play. The two-point conversion try failed, leaving Logan Elm with the 7-6 lead.

The Braves increased their lead to 14-6 to close the first quarter when Walters found Carson Summers on an 18 yard TD pass to cap a 60 yard/9 play drive. Another LE score at 1:52 remaining in the first half made it 20-6 with Walters 23 yard TD pass to Cam Redd, capping a 59 yard/7 play drive.

Circleville responded with a hurry-up offense, going 66 yards in 11 plays, scoring to end the first half on an 8 yard TD pass from Phalin to Drew Thornsley for a halftime score 20-13.

Circleville’s fumble of the second half kickoff was the turning point, as Logan Elm used the short field 30 yard drive in 4 plays, with Landon Thompson running 7 yards for a 27-13 lead with 11:09 of the third quarter.

The Braves took an 80 yard/10 play drive for a score with Aaron Walters found Hunter Kersey on a 12 yard TD strike for a 33-13 lead at 9:50 remaining in the game. The finishing touches for LE came at 6:57 of the quarter with a 16 yard TD pass from Walters to Carson Summers, capping a 20 yard/4 play drivee that was set up by Summers’ intercpetion on Circleville’s possession.

Circleville added a late TD with :38 remaining on a 22 yard TD pass from Austin Gray to Jack Kline for a 40-19 final score.

Logan Elm had 280 total yards, with quarterback Aaron Walters throwing 14/20 for 180 yards and 5 touchdowns, earning him the McDonald’s Player of the Game.

Circleville had more total yards in the game with 305, as quarterback Hudson Phalin threw 18/33 for 175 yards and 3 TD’s.
