Logan Elm Dominates Hamilton Twp in MSL Title Win
Article Presented By Kingston National Bank…
The Logan Elm Braves dominated every phase of the game in their 28-0 win over Hamilton Township Friday, creating a tri-championship between Logan Elm, Hamilton Township and Bloom Carroll. The Rangers 31-28 win over the Bulldogs the week before, opened the door for Logan Elm to climb back into the title picture, and the Braves made the most of it in their impressive win against the Rangers.
The Braves defense was one of the stars of the game, holding the Rangers to 199 total yards, after Hamilton Township rolled up 451 against Bloom Carrol the week before. Logan Elm shut down every element of Hamilton Township’s powerful offense. The Rangers highly touted Nadir Langston was held to 61 rushing yards, despite entering the game with just under 1,400 yards for the season and an 8+ yard per carry average. Quarterback Josh Woods had almost 2,200 passing yards entering the game, but was held to 9/20 for 86 yards passing vs Logan Elm. Receiver Jovon McBride was held to 47 yards receiving, after going into Week 10 with 1,020 yards.
The Braves also capitalized on four Rangers’ turnovers, recovering two fumbles and grabbing two interceptions. Logan Elm scored three of their four touchdowns on drives that came from HT turnovers.
Logan Elm’s offense did their part as well, rolling up 387 total yards. They were led by running back Landon Thompson’s 190 yards rushing on 27 carries, scoring three touchdowns. Thompson was named the McDonald’s Player of the Game for his performance, which was broadcast on Litter Media Radio. Michael Bock added 64 yards rushing, while quarterback Aaron Walters was 7/16 passing for 133 yards.
The Braves took the game’s opening possession 73 yards on 8 plays, scoring at 7:44 on a Landon Thompson 40 yard run. Maggie Wilson’s PAT kick gave the Braves a 7-0 lead.
Logan Elm made it 13-0 at 9:12 of the second quarter, taking a fumble recovery and turning it into a 3 play/36 yard scoring drive. Michael Bock dashed 31 yards off a screen pass from Aaron Walters for the TD, but the extra point was missed. That score held up going into halftime.
Hamilton Township looked determined early in the third quarter as they moved the ball to midfield, but coughed up a fumble that Keegan Diehl recovered. The Braves capped off an 11 play/52 yard scoring drive at 5:32 of the third quarter with a 4 yard Thompson TD run and a two point PAT conversion pass from Aaron Walters to Cameron Smith for a 21-0 lead.
The Braves slammed the door following a Joshua Hunter interception, driving 54 yards in 7 plays. That drive was capped-off by Landon Thompson’s third score of the night and a PAT kick for a 28-0 lead, which held up as the final score.
Logan Elm will likely host an opening round playoff game next Friday, completing the regular season at (6-1/9-1). Hamilton Township will be playoff bound as well, with the same record.
Bloom Carroll beat Circleville 40-0, sharing the MSL Buckeye with LE and HT.
OHSAA Playoff pairings will be announced on Sunday, which can be on our Litter Media website.
