Novelist Thomas Wolfe once wrote “You Can’t Go Home Again.” But, high school basketball player and coaching legend Matt Combs has defied that as he will become the new boys basketball coach at his alma mater Unioto High School.
Shermans Hall of Famer Matt Combs played at Unioto between 1989-92 where he still is their all-time leading scorer with over 1,700 points. He was SVC “Player of the Year” in 1990-91, the same magical season where he helped the Tanks to a state runner-up finish.
Combs made his coaching fame as the long-time head coach for the Vinton County Vikings, accumulating more than 300 career victories and three district championships between 1999-2022.
Matt Combs will fill the vacancy left by the basketball coaching resignation by Matt Hoops, who will remain as Unioto football coach. Combs said he will also remain as the Unioto Athletic Director as well.
