Miller Announces Candidacy for Chillicothe Municipal Court Bench

(Chillicothe) – Local attorney, Jason M. Miller, has announced his Republican candidacy for Chillicothe Municipal Court Judge. Miller intends to fill the judicial seat of the Honorable John B. Street who is not seeking re-election for the term beginning January 1, 2026. Miller brings extraordinary experience and unmatched qualifications to this important judicial position.
Miller, a Ross County native, is an Assistant Law Director for the City of Chillicothe and a practicing attorney with Villarreal Law Firm. Miller is a 1994 graduate of Zane Trace High School and a 1998 graduate of Ohio University where he received a bachelor’s degree in English. After graduation, Miller attended Ohio Northern University law school where he received his Juris Doctor degree in 2001. Miller is licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio and the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
For all of his nearly 24-year career, Miller has worked as a trial attorney. After training for the courtroom for one year as an associate attorney with Earl, Warburton, Adams & Davis, LLP in Columbus, Ohio, Miller transitioned into his first role as Assistant Prosecutor in Ross County Juvenile and Adult Felony Courts with then-elected Ross County Prosecutor Scott Nusbaum. He was recruited in 2004 to serve as Hardin County Municipal Prosecutor and later took on the additional position of Assistant Hardin County Prosecuting Attorney, until returning to his hometown in early 2021. During his tenure in northern Ohio, Miller also represented 4 local municipalities as Village Solicitor and further served as legal counsel for two joint ambulance districts. He is also certified by the Ohio Supreme Court as a trained Mediator and has mediated nearly 100 cases.
According to a press release, “Miller has successfully served for more than two decades as a prosecuting attorney in virtually every local venue: Juvenile, Municipal and Adult Felony Courts. Miller has tried more than 100 felony and misdemeanor criminal jury trials in his career and hundreds of bench trials, both in criminal and civil courts.” Miller also served as Acting Judge in the Bellefontaine Municipal Court under the appointment of Retired Judge Ann Beck.
“In addition to his eminent qualifications as an attorney, Miller enjoyed service as a campaign partner for the late Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Thomas J. Moyer and as an early campaign liaison to Retired Supreme Court Justice Judith Lanzinger. He has also enjoyed affiliations with the American Red Cross, Chillicothe Evening Lions, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Chillicothe Rotary and various other civic organizations. He is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association as well as the Bar Associations in Ross and Scioto Counties.”
Miller is married to April Miller (Butchers) from Chillicothe, and they have two daughters, ages 15 and 18, who attend Chillicothe High School.
