(Akron) – The (22-7) Minford Falcons saw their meteoric tournament run come to a close Saturday afternoon as they were blanked in a four-hit shutout pitching effort by Millbury Lake’s Drew Tajblik. The Flyers head to Sunday’s Division 3 State Championship game against Heath following their 8 inning 4-3 win over Waynedale at Akron’s Canal Park.
Tajblik is now a perfect (12-0) on the mound this season for (28-4) Millbury Lake, fanning seven Minford Falcons’ batters, walking one, and only threw 104 pitches in the game.
At the plate, the Flyers did their damage in the second and third innings. They took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a Caleb Tobias RBI-double in the second. They added three more runs in the top of the third inning with three singles, and a couple of fielders’ choice at-bats.
Minford’s Cam Thacker took the loss, despite yielding only six hits and striking out seven Flyers for the game.
Minford’s state semi appearance is the second in school history and marked the end of a tremendous tournament dash that included district and regional title wins over Wheelersburg and Portsmouth, respectively.
