National Day of Prayer Observed in Ohio’s First Capital

The National Day of Prayer was recognized in front of the Ross County Court House Thursday.

Members of the community rallied to pray for America and our local communities. Among the speakers were event organizational coordinators, representatives of city government, educators and members of the Scioto Valley Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Lay leaders prayed with students from Ross Christian Academy, elected officials, first responders, educators in addition to the many Ministers who lead the churches of Ross County.

The National Day of Prayer takes place the first Thursday of May each year. According to the NDP’s website, the National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. READ MORE ABOUT THE HISTORY OF NDP 

The 2024 observance began with a student led worship event Wednesday evening at Chillicothe High School. Volunteers and worship team members gathered for a prayer vigil at Grandview Cemetery Thursday at sunrise, followed by the event at the Court House at noon.
