(Circleville) – The Pickaway County Park District has announced the opening of the Ohio-Erie Canal pedestrian bridge, a scenic link between Canal Park’s Trails and the expansive Pickaway Trail. This bridge creates a seamless connection, spanning a mile and a half of the paved Pickaway Trail, and offers breathtaking views of the historic Ohio-Erie Canal.
The project’s origins trace back to 2019 when the Park District applied for an ODNR Clean Ohio Trail Fund grant. After a temporary delay due to COVID-19, the district received a $303,402 grant in 2021, after combining it with levy funds to complete the $516,379 project the District completed this project this summer.
This new link is part of the Park District’s broader vision to create an accessible, continuous trail network. The goal is to provide a path from the Canal Road-Pickaway Trail parking lot to the City of Circleville via a second bridge over the Scioto River and west to the county line in the Village of New Holland. The Ohio-Erie Canal pedestrian bridge not only enhances trail connectivity but also celebrates the area’s history and natural beauty. Visitors can now enjoy the serene ambiance of the Ohio-Erie Canal on a well-maintained trail.
The Pickaway County Park District invites all to experience the Ohio-Erie Canal pedestrian bridge-a gateway to adventure and a connection to Pickaway County’s natural treasures. Take a walk, jog, or bike ride and savor the bridge’s beauty, becoming part of a growing trail community.
