NHCA Statesmen Take Titans 54-35 at OCU

Article presented by Rathkamp Financial

New Hope Chrisitan Academy entertained Portsmouth Notre Dame Saturday night and handed the Titans a 54-35 loss in the Maxwell Center at Ohio Christian University.

The entertainment however was watching how the Statesmen were able to attack on fastbreak opportunities, their ball movement in the scrimmage area and how they contended defensively around the opponent’s basket.

“We came in with a game plan defensively to match their (Notre Dame’s) physicality” said New Hope head coach, Shane Roese. “We switched every screen and we switched it aggressively so that they couldn’t get downhill. I thought it was really effective.”

The Statesmen outshot Notre Dame hitting 43.3 % from the field to the Titans’ 5-of-23 for 22% during the first half.

New Hope led Notre Dame 23-15 at the break.

The Titans managed a rally in the third, but New Hope widened the gap to 42-31 through three quarters.

“I thought we had some spurts where we scored in transition tonight which is what we like to do” said Roese.

The game was put away in the fourth period. “We made a spurt and got up 13, 14 (points) and then just took care of the basketball.”

New Hope got some easy buckets off their ball movement in to surge ahead 54-35 outscoring the Titans 14-4 in the final period.

The Statesmen improved to 11-1 while Notre Dame slips to 7-3.

New Hope will host Green out of Franklin Furnace on Saturday, January 25 at the Maxwell Center while the Titans prepare to meet Greenup County next week weekend.”
