COLUMBUS, Ohio — To help celebrate America’s 250th birthday, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Parks and Watercraft is inviting outdoor enthusiasts of all ages to take part in a new statewide hiking challenge designed to showcase the beauty, history, and accessibility of Ohio’s natural spaces.
Beginning now and continuing through the rest of 2026, visitors can participate in the America 250 – ODNR Challenge, choosing between a 25‑mile family‑friendly option or a more ambitious 250‑mile adventure. Both challenges encourage participants to explore designated trails in Ohio’s state parks, forests, nature preserves, and wildlife areas.
“Ohioans have incredible natural spaces to explore, and these challenges give families, friends, and adventurers a fun way to celebrate America’s 250th birthday while enjoying the great trails on our public lands,” said ODNR Director Mary Mertz. “Every mile tells a story—of our land, our history, and the people who call Ohio home.”
