Cole Miller’s State Meet Trifecta Lifts Paint Valley To State Runner-Up Team Finish

An almost super human effort by Paint Valley’s Cole Miller enabled the Paint Valley Boys team to claim state runner-up at the OHSAA Championships at OSU’s Jesse Owens Stadium Friday and Saturday.

Miller compiled 30 points for the Bearcats in winning three events. His Friday long jump of 23-5.5 took the state crown, then added a 100 dash first place finish in 10.75 and a 21.80 first place in the 200 dash on Saturday morning. The Bearcats share the runner-up slot with Columbus Grove, with Maria Stein Marion Local winning the D-3 state crown with 38 points.

Lucasville Valley’s Justin Moore in the Division 3 boys shot put, with a toss of 62-10.5. Moore placed 4th in the discus.

Spencer Brower of Zane Trace placed 7th in D-2 boys shot put. Adena’s Sydney Foglesong scored in two separate events, placing third in the girls discus and 4th in the shot put.

Here are some other area athletes that scored points with top 8 finishes in their events:

Huntington’s Brooke Hopkins places 7th in the seated shot put for girls D-3. Unioto’s 4×800 boys relay of Markko Turner, JJ Larue, Ashton Beverly, and Caden Larue as they were 6th in D-2.

Luke Rader of Minford was 6th in D-2 long jump.

Lancaster boy’s 4×800 relay team placed fifth in Division 1. Colton Thress of Lancaster state runner-up in the 800 run.

Daniel Edwards of Lancaster wins the D1 boys pole vault with an effort of 16-4 as teammate Lukas Lang was third. Peyton Wilson of Lancaster was 6th in the discus. Bloom Carroll has a boys state champion in the shot put with a throw of 60-9.75 from Dylan Chittum. Chittum was 8th in the discus.

Circleville’s Faith Yancey was fifth in the 200 at 25.15.

Piketon’s Alan Austin placed third and Zane Trace’s Nalin Robinson fifth in Division 2 discus. Logan Elm senior Tayla Tootle was fourth in the Division 2 pole vault.

Sophia Szolosi finishes her freshman season as D2 State Runner-Up in the 3200 run with a time of 10:59.23 at the OHSAA State meet. Waverly’s Mitch Green took fifth place in the 1600. Fairfield Union junior Anna Conrad was seventh in the D-2 1600. Drew Walton of Fairfield Union finished 7th in the 3200. Portsmouth junior Charles Putnam was 4th in the 3200 run for D-2 in a time of 9:31.
