Paint Valley Edges Piketon in SVC Boys Roundball

Article Presented By Kingston National Bank…

Two teams that have been struggling below the .500 mark this season, raised the level of their play Friday in a 62-61 win for the Paint Valley Bearcats at Piketon.

Both teams struggled shooting the ball below 30% in the first quarter only to see those percentages sky-rocket in the second stanza. The Redstreaks shot 86% in the second period with the Bearcats firing in buckets at a 62% clip.

The first half saw the lead change hands several times before PV opened their biggest lead 20-15. Piketon evened the count at 20-20 before the Bearcats took a 29-27 halftime advantage. That Paint Valley lead grew to 43-34 then later 49-40 after three periods. Piketon started the fourth quarter on a 11-1 run for a 51-50 lead. But, Paint Valley, who shot poorly from the foul line to start the game made the most of their chances at the end of the game to help seal the 62-61 win.

Paint Valley shot 25/56- including 5/14 from the arc for 45%, while Piketon was 23/41- including 5/10 from the arc for 56%. Paint Valley was 7/13 from the charity stripe compared to Piketon’s 10/16. The Bearcats won the rebounding battle 23-20 and committed only 6 turnovers to Piketon’s 8.

Braylon Robertson and Carson Free of Paint Valley were our McDonald’s Players of the Game, scoring 25 and 21 points respectively. Jase Rinehart added 6 points, Logan Laug and Gavin Kingery each had 4 points, with John Free adding 2 points.

Piketon had four players in double figures, led by Garrett Legg’s 17 points and 13 rebounds. Declan Davis scored all 16 of his points in the second half. Bo Henry had 12 points, Brent McGuire 11, Mason Thacker 3 and Leighton Kelley 2 points.

Paint Valley improves to (2-7/3-13) and Piketon drops to (3-7/7-11).
