Paint Valley Stuns SVC Volleyball Leader Zane Trace

Presented By Rathkamp Financial

The Paint Valley Bearcats sent shockwaves through the SVC Volleyball world Thursday with a straight-set sweep of conference leader and #6 state ranked Zane Trace (25-22, 26-24, 25-19).

Paint Valley entered the match with a (2-6) SVC record, while the Pioneers sat 1/2 match ahead of Adena at (8-1). But Thursday, the Bearcats were right in the thick of the contest from the opening serve, and at times, led by as many as several points.

Each time, Zane Trace battled back, only to see PV come up with a key defensive play or big offensive attack. Paint Valley’s service game was a key to keeping the Pioneers on their heals and getting them out of system for their offensive attack. The Bearcats had 11 aces in the match, with Abbi Stanforth notching 8 of them.

Paint Valley Coach Kristen Posey said this about her team’s effort- “This was a complete team effort that shows all the work this group has put in as a team. I am so proud of their growth throughout the season. “

The Bearcats offense was led by Olivia Smith with 14 kills, 1 block and 11 digs.  Abbi Stanforth had  8 ace serves, 7 kills, 1 block, 3 assists and 15 digs.  Addison Furniss added 3 kills, 3 digs and 1 block.  Averi McFadden had 6 kills, 2 assists,  22 digs and 1 ace.  Bailey Brumfield added 13 digs, Kaitlin Potts 1 ace, 1 kill, 25 assists and 9 digs. Kendall Dye pounded 4 kills, had 1 block, 9 digs and 1 ace.

Zane Trace stats showed the following:
*D. Berry: had 8 assists, 7/7 service, 1/1 SR, 1 BA, 3/5 digs
*L. Scott: 13 kills, 2/3 service, 1 ace, 8/10 SR, 2/4 digs
*G. McCullough: 4 kills, 14/16 service, 14/17 SR, 4 BA, 20/20 digs
*A. Farley: 9 kills, 1/1 SR, 1 solo, 4 BA, 4/4 dig
*Emily Allen: 5 kills, 16/17 service, 2 aces, 17/19 SR, 2 solo, 4 BA, 13/17 digs
*K. O’Neill: 5/5 service, 6/7 SR, 6/8 digs
*B. Viney: 7/8 service, 11/11 SR, 9/11 digs
*A. Crow: 1 BA, 3/3 digs
*K. May: 1 kill, 21 assts, 9/9 service, 2/3 SR, 2 BA, 7/10 digs

With the loss, (8-2) Zane Trace drops a match behind (8-1) Adena in the SVC loss column. The Warriors, who beat Unioto (25-13, 25-19, 25-13) on Thursday, still have a match to make up with Paint Valley. PV improves to (3-6) in the SVC.

Zane Trace hosts Adena Tuesday.
