Paints Open Prospect League Championship Series with 5-3 Win

The Chillicothe Paints are one win away from the 2022 Prospect League Championship, and can sew the title up at V.A. Memorial Stadium Saturday, following a 5-3 win in Game #1 at Alton, Illinois Thursday night.
The Paints took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Tim Orr slammed a two-run homer. River Dragons rally with single runs in thee sixth and seventh inning to even the score 2-2 in the bottom of the 7th inning.
Chillicothe scored three runs in the top of the 8th inning for a 5-2 lead, only to see Alton get a lead-off homer in the bottom of the 9th, to cut the margin to 5-3.
Cal McAninch then relieved starter and winning pitcher Gunnar Boehm to gain the save and take the opening game win with a 5-3 decision.
It was a big night at the plate for Mike Sprockett and Tim Orr, each driving in 2 RBI’s. Sprockett was 2/4 at the dish. Orr’s two RBI’s came on his first inning homer.
Alton’s Erik Broekemeier was also 2/4 with one RBI.
Chillicothe can win the best-of-three Prospect League Championship Series with a victory in Game #2 Saturday at V.A. Memorial Stadium, with first pitch at 7:05pm.
If needed, game #3 would be Sunday in Chillicothe.
