Paints Storm Back For 11-10 Playoff Win Over Mill Rats

Article Presented By Hanes Total Healthcare Center…

It might go down as one of the biggest comebacks in Prospect League Playoff history as the Chillicothe Paints rallied from a 9-3 deficit for an 11-10 Northeast Division Championship victory over the Johnstown Mill Rats Thursday at V.A. Memorial Stadium. The Paints will host Saturday’s Eastern Conference title game against Friday’s Danville-Rex winner as their Thursday game was postponed due to rain. Saturday’s Eastern Conference Championship at V.A. Memorial Stadium will start at 7:05pm.

Chillicothe raced out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, which held up through the first three innings before a rain delay came going into the fourth inning. When play resumed, the lightning seen during the delay seemed to be striking in Johnstown’s behalf as they crossed the plate with nine runs in the top of the fourth inning on only four hits. Three other runs were compliments of runners scoring on bases loaded walks and another forced in when a batter was hit by a pitch. Jack Rollo suffered the rough inning, yielding six earned runs and walking three batters without recording an out.

As gloomy as things might have looked for Chillicothe fans at that point, the Paints started cutting away at that deficit, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run double by Eric Colaco to cut the margin to 9-5. The Mill Rats added one run in the top of the fifth for a 10-5 lead, taking a little wind out of the Paints sails.

That remained the score until Chillicothe broke loose for five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at 10-10. The Paints then scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI double by Felix Polanco for the 11-10 advantage.

Big producers at the plate for Chillicothe included Eric Colaco’s 2/4 and 3 RBI’s. Cameron Bowen, Felix Polanco, and Clay Burdette each drove in two runs in the game.

Paints reliever Will Rettig worked four innings on the mound to pick up the victory.
