A few dozen people attended a special Adena Local Board of Education meeting Wednesday, where school district officials unveiled the proposal for an approximate $7.2 million wellness center in Frankfort. The funds being sought through the Appalachian Community Development Grant Project, would total $5,589,868 with the remaining $1,632,560 coming from the Adena Local School District general fund and possible community and business donations.
No local levy would be needed to pay for the proposed project.
If the grant is awarded, the Warrior Wellness Center would include an indoor sport court, walking track, community fitness center, weight room, locker rooms, and medical clinic space and exam rooms, among other space in the two buildings. The site of the buildings would be between the existing Bostic Football Field and baseball diamond.
Grant partners for the Warrior Wellness Center are: Appalachian Children’s Foundation, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Adena Health System, Village of Clarksburg, Village of Frankfort, and Adena Local Schools.
The grant award will be announced in January or early February 2024, with Adena School officials saying they have been told they are still in the running as a possible recipient.
If awarded:
-The project must be under contract by September 30, 2024
-Must have partners in place and begin implementation within 90 days of receipt of funds
-Projects must be completed by October 31, 2026.
