
Rain Shortened OHSAA D-2 Golf Tournaments Nets 3 Area Top 10 Teams

Rain got the better of Round 2 in both the girls and boys Division 2 OHSAA State Golf Tournament Tuesday, as cancellations left Round 1 as the only scoring day for the state’s top teams.
Zane Trace Lady Pioneers placed 7th as a team at Heatherwoode Golf Course in Springboro, firing an opening day round of 379. SVC “Player of the Year” Rosella Lattavo led the way with a 74. Anna Helber followed with an 83, then Mary Helber 86, Carly Picklesimer 136, and Chloe Johnson at 150. Coach Allan Helber’s team has 4 of their five counters as underclassmen, returning for another run next year.
Individual golfer not on a qualifying team, Naomi Spahr of Logan Elm, shot an 89.
Steve Spencer’s Piketon Lady Redstreaks placed 12th at 414. Laila Kelley shot an 86, followed by Alayna Hitchcock 95, Peyton Day 136, Brenna Weaver 120, and Piper Brodess with a 162.
Columbus Academy won the state championship with a 317.
On the D-2 boys side at NCR Country Club’s South Course, the SVC Champion Westfall Mustangs placed 8th at 339. SVC “Player of the Year” Brendan Biegler fired a 79, followed by Colton Brungarth at 82, Colton Krafft 88, Brody Biegler 93, and Dalton Bush 90. Congrats to Coach Jacob Rankin for another great golf season.
The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs fired a team score 340 to finish 10th.
Individual golfer not on a qualifying team, Jaxson Hughey of Circleville, shot an 93.
Kettering Alter won the state crown with a 314.
