(Piketon) – The Community Action Committee of Pike County’s (CAC) Workforce & Business Development (W&B) Program’s Transitions Program hosted Rise Above: An Event Celebrating Recovery in Pike County on Wednesday, October 9th at the Pike County Fairgrounds, bringing together approximately 200 attendees from Pike and surrounding counties in a vibrant celebration of recovery.

The event featured a range of activities, with guest speakers delivering both informational and inspirational messages. Dr. Christine McKain, Medical Director at Valley View Health Center, opened the proceedings by highlighting efforts to enhance recovery resources in the region. Dr. Terry Johnson, Ohio Senator for District 14, then discussed holistic approaches to achieving and maintaining sobriety. Personal testimonies from Heather Osborne and Zach Cornette powerfully illustrated their battles with Substance Use Disorders (SUD), which resonated deeply with attendees reminding everyone of the resilience and determination required to overcome SUD addiction.

This gathering welcomed community members of all ages, fostering a spirit of unity and support in the face of adversity. The atmosphere was enhanced by delicious catering from Fat Dave’s Catering, making the evening truly memorable. In addition, representatives from various partner organizations were present to provide information about available supportive services, reinforcing a collective commitment to assisting individuals and families affected by SUD. Their presence exemplified the community’s dedication to recovery.

“The Rise Above Recovery Event transcended mere celebration; it served as a powerful affirmation of hope and resilience in the face of adversity. Attendees celebrated recovery journeys, built connections, and encouraged those still struggling to seek help. The W&B Program Team extends a heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated and contributed to this significant event. Together, we are helping our community rise above the challenges of SUD and paving the way for a brighter future for all.”
