Ross County Continuum of Care Prepares for Point in Time Count in January 2026

Article presented by Hometown Motors, Inc.

The Ross County Continuum of Care to End Homelessness is preparing for its annual Point in Time Count and Stand Down events.

The Stand Down to End Homelessness event will be held at the Chillicothe-Ross County Public Library Annex at 140 South Paint Street from 10am-2pm on January 27th. The Stand Down event will provide access to local resources for those who are currently or could potentially be homeless. Agencies wishing to participate can complete a form here: 2026 Stand Down Agency Registration.

The Point in Time Count will take place from 8pm the night of Tuesday January 27th and 6am the following morning, Wednesday January 28th.

Tabitha Muse told Litter Media the Point in Time Count is a nationwide effort. “It provides a snapshot of homelessness in our community, helping local agencies secure funding, identify unmet needs, and strengthen services for individuals and families experiencing housing instability. During this overnight count, trained volunteers and outreach teams will engage with individuals who are unsheltered or living in places not meant for human habitation. This data is essential for understanding the scope of homelessness in Ross County and improving the resources available to our community members.”

Last January, the Point in Time count met with 41 unsheltered individuals on the day of the count in Ross County. Muse added there were 107 sheltered individuals as well.

Muse says the Stand Down event provides essential items, resources, and agency connections. “Services and resources provided are clothing, hygiene items, food, information on local shelters, housing resources and community programs. Individuals and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness, community partners, and those needing support connecting to local services should attend.”

The event is free and open to the public.

Those wishing to volunteer for the Point in Time Count can email rosscountycoc@gmail.com.
