The Ross County Humane Society held a public meeting on Thursday, January 25th, where they went over a recap of 2023 and shared some details of the new building they are constructing.
Jenn Thomas of the humane society shared that groundbreaking will begin on the project in late March or early April of 2024, with the building hopefully completed by late fall of this year.
The new building will have 7,500 square feet, compared to the humane society’s current shelter which has only 4,000.
The building will have four wings, each including 12 kennels and an outside area for the animals, as well as a surgery suite and dedicated hospital.
Current funds raised or pledged for the building equal $1.8m, while the construction cost for the building is $2.5m, so the humane society is still accepting donations.
D.E. Huddleston, Inc will be the contractors working on the project.
Also at the January 25th meeting, Jenn Thomas shared that the Ross County Humane Society has been trying to make the adoption process easier for people who would like to adopt a pet, including removing the long application process. “We’re trying to focus on how can we say yes, instead of how can we say no,” she said.
