Fake legal document scam

Scammer Using Fake Legal Documents In Attempt To Gain Cash From Victims

Article Presented By Rathkamp Financial…

(Chillicothe) – The Ross County Sheriff has again been contacted about citizens receiving phone calls from someone alleging to be from the Ross County Sheriff’s Office asking for money. In the most recent rendition of this scam, the scammer sent fake legal paperwork in hopes of proving their legitimacy.

“Note the different fonts and clarity of the text where it has been edited. The scammer used phone number (740) 253-4953. This number is not associated with our office.” according to Sheriff George Lavender.

“We will not ask for money or your bank information over the phone. You will not be able to settle legal matters by paying with Bitcoin, CashApp or any similar payment method.”

In fact, no sheriff offices in Ohio demand money over the telephone, through texts or emails for overdue fines or any other legal transaction.
