Presented By Ross-Chillicothe Convention & Visitor’s Bureau
The Sheridan Lady Generals are headed to the Division 2 Regional Sweet 16 following a convincing 63-34 district championship win over defending state runner-up Vinton County Friday night at Southeastern High School.
The Lady Viking stayed close at 11-7, before Sheridan closed the first quarter on a 5-0 run for a 16-7 lead, and never was in jeopardy after that. Sheridan stretched their advantage to 24-9 at 5:44 of the second quarter and led 31-16 at halftime
The Lady Generals’ lead continued to grow through the second half with the likely dagger being plunged by Sheridan’s Bailey Beckstedt when she drilled a bank-shot from just inside the mid-court stripe as the quarter ended for a 51-24 lead.
Their lead peaked at 63-30 before both teams started to sub and 63-34 was the final.
(23-3) Sheridan was led by 6’1 Akron University bound Faith Stinson with 23 points and 11 rebounds with 6 blocked shots, Bailey Beckstedt added 16, 8 rebounds and 7 assists and Halle Warner with 9 points.
(17-5) Vinton County had two players in double figures as Tegan Bartoe led with 20 points and Cameron Zinn tossed in 11 points.
Sheridan will play the Saturday 1pm East District winner between New Concord John Glenn and West Holmes at the Zanesville Regional Semis at 6pm, March 1st.
