Shermans Topple Generals in Girls DIII District Semifinals

Article Presented By Scioto Valley Dumpsters, LTD

The Unioto Lady Shermans saw success against the Sheridan Generals in the Girls DIII District Semifinal game at Logan High School.

Milee Smith was held scoreless until she was fouled with a minute left in the 1st, where she would tie the game up at 9, and then score again to lead 11-9 going into the 2nd quarter.

The halftime score would wind up 23-19, with Unioto having the advantage.

At the end of three, the score was 35-25 Shermans. The Generals cut Unioto’s lead to only 7 with three minutes left to play in the 4th quarter. With one minute left, the Shermans were up 46-38.

A Milee Smith layup would put the game on ice with 40 seconds left as Unioto took an 8 point lead. The final score was 50-42.

Milee Smith led the Shermans in scoring with 22 points, followed by Mya Hamilton’s 17. Ava Heller led the Generals with 24.

Unioto coach Jeff Miller says that heading into their next game, they need to work on not becoming stagnate once they’ve gotten hold of a late-game lead.

Unioto will go on to play the Drsden Tri-Valley Scotties, who won over Steubenville 43-15 on February 19th. That game will be on Saturday, February 22nd at 1pm at the Winland Memorial Gymnasium in Zanesville.
