In 2018, she became Ross County’s All-Time leading scorer… today, Ella Skeens is leading her own program after being named Head Coach of the Women’s Basketball Program at Wheeling University.

“I’m incredibly honored and humbled” Skeens said in a release by the University based in Wheeling, West Virginia.

The Southeastern High School alumnus spent last season as an assistant coach with the WU Cardinals following a season as a graduate assistant in 2023-24.

WU Athletic Director Carrie Hanna said Skeens “indisputably ensures the highest standards of excellence and continuity for the Wheeling University Women’s Basketball program’s growth and success moving forward.”

Skeens transferred to the University of Rio Grande after stops at the University of Dayton and Ball State. In her two seasons with the Red Storm, Skeens averaged 20.8 points per game over 68 games finishing with 1,487 points including 50 scored in a game against Asbury College in 2023.
