Strong 4th Quarter Pushes Northwest to D-3 Boys Sectional Crown Over Adena

The (16-8) Adena Warriors led at the end of each of the first three quarters in their Division 3 Sectional Championship game at Zane Trace Friday, but Northwest outscored Adena 20-10 in the final stanza for the 54-46 victory.
The Warriors held a 14-5 lead before the Mohawks closed the gap to 15-12 to close the first quarter. Both teams traded leads late in the second period, with the Warriors holding the 22-21 lead at halftime. A close third quarter saw the lead change hands with Adena closing on a 8-3 run for a 36-34 advantage going to the final period. That’s when the Mohawks made the most of their foul line trips in the final quarter to pull away for their first sectional championship since 1996.
Northwest shot 17/39 from the field- including 5/16 from the arc for 44%, but added 15/17 at the charity stripe. Adena was 18.43 from the field- including 2/7 from the arc for 42%, adding 8/14 from the foul line.
Both teams committed 7 turnovers with Northwest winning the boards 24-23.
Northwest’s Tanner Bolin, Connor Lintz and Jay Jenkins led the scoring with 18, 17 and 15 points. each were named “McDonald’s Players of the Game.”
Adena was led by Lucas King’s 11 points and 9 rebounds, with 10 points each coming from Bryson Smith and Cayden Lee. Joedy Ater added 9 points and 9 rebounds.
Adena closes their season at (16-8) while Northwest heads to the Convo in Athens with a (21-3) record.
