Student Art Exhibition At Hopewell Cultural National Historical Park
Presented By Ross-Chillicothe Convention & Visitor’s Bureau
30 students from all over the United States have interpreted the theme “An Expression of Teamwork”, which is being exhibited at Hopewell Cultural Natural Historical Park. Altogether, 282 students from 16 schools participated in this art exhibit at the park Visitor Center.
Some of the students participating, other than from Ohio, include those from as far west as California and Arizona to as far east as Maine.
In addition to burial mounds, the people of Ohio were building outstanding earthworks from 1 to 450 AD. This cultural group, which we now call Hopewell culture, built some earthworks over a mile long and 130 acres wide. They erected woodhenges and structures that were the size of a modern day house or apartment building.
There is no way a person could construct these earthworks and ceremonial complexes alone; they were constructed through teamwork. Working together, people of the Hopewell culture were able to create these lasting monuments on the landscape.
The exhibit opened April 16th and runs through June 18th.
