Swimming: Locals Advance to District Meet

A number of local swimmers qualified for next weekend’s District Meet following the D-II Swim Sectional Tournament Saturday at Ohio University in Athens.

The Athens won the Girls Sectional in dominant fashion by winning all but one event, the 50 Free won by Chillicothe’s Sarah Johansen. The rest of the Top 5 teams were Chillicothe, McClain, Warren and Wheelersburg. McClain is the Boys Sectional Champ followed by Athens, Hillsboro, Chillicothe and Fairfield Union rounding out the Top 5. Team places are below. Results from the Swim Meet App.

Champions for the events are listed below.

Among the area qualifying girls include: Chillicothe’s 200 Medley Relay team – Sarah Johansen, Meliah Stangle, Eva Johansen, Reina Cunningham; 400 Free Relay Team – Cunningham, Johansen, Johansen and MAxene Jones; Unioto’s Layla Scarberry (50 Free & 100 Backstroke); Scarberry, Haylee Hull, Alyssa Dollison & Kenzie Welch (200 Medley Relay & 400 Free Relay) and McClain’s Laura Barber (100 Free).

On the Boys side, Chillicothe’s Jonathan Crawford (200 Free & 500 Free); Isaac Crawford (200 IM); Malachi Upshaw (100 Breaststroke); Noah Beck (100 FLy, 200 IM); Upshaw, Crawford, Crawford and Sam Hurff (400 Free Relay) and Jonathan Crawford, Upshaw, Hurff & Noah Beck (200 Medley Relay) and McClain’s Ethan Eakins (100 backstroke).

Swimmers from the Southeast District are combined with those from the Central District determining qualifiers to swim next weekend.
