Wade Bartholomew To Coach At Olentangy H.S.

Presented By Scioto Valley Dumpsters

Former Bloom Carroll football coach Wade Bartholomew has been hired as the new head coach for Olentangy High School. He fills a vacancy left by the retirement of Mark Solis, who led the Braves over 9 seasons with a record of (68-36).

Bartholomew recently resigned from the Bulldogs, where he had a record of (67-25) over 8 seasons, reaching the state semifinals in Division 4 in 2020 and 2021. His Bulldogs were also regional runner-up in 2019 and won four straight MSL Buckeye titles. He was the Division 4 Ohio Coach of the Year in 2020.

In a press release from Olentangy High School, Wade Bartholomew stated; “My family and I are extremely excited to join the Olentangy community and look forward to working with the student athletes and leading this strong and celebrated football program.”

Bartholomew also has coached at Logan Elm, Huntington and Gallia Academy.

Wade’s father, Scott, recently was hired as Chillicothe High School’s new football coach after being an assistant coach for Wade at Bloom Carroll.

Lancaster Eagle Gazette Sports Reporter Thomas Wilson first reported the breaking story on his Twitter feed.

Bartholomew has compiled a won loss record for the Bulldogs of (68-25) in eight seasons with two straight state semifinal appearances, five MSL-Buckeye titles, and six playoff berths.

In his six post-seasons, his record was (11-6), but is (10-3) the last three seasons.

Bartholomew was quoted in The Lancaster Eagle-Gazette as saying he wants the opportunity to eventually coach at the college level. “I believe right now is a really good opportunity for me to maybe take a bigger job in Ohio, whether it’s high school or college.”

Prior to coming to Bloom Carroll, Wade Bartholomew also served as a head coach at Huntington and Gallia Academy, while also serving as an assistant at Logan Elm.

It was a bit Awkward, But It Was Good to be Back on Field Friday Night

Logan Elm Interim Athletic Boosters President, Dan Bise welcomes Teays Valley cheerleaders during the weather delay.

It was good to get back to on the gridiron Friday night for the Litter Media Game of the Week… however, it was admittedly different.

Among the observations:

GUIDELINES: Despite the downsizing of fan attendance, it was good to see activity and be back on the sidelines. Everyone in attendance adhered to the guidelines of social distancing and facial coverings. Rows were marked to make separation easy for fans.

The Logan Elm sideline had strategically space folding chairs for players to use along the track instead of a typical bench. Teays Valley plotted markers along their sideline between the 10 yard lines for players to maintain distancing.

WEATHER: En route to Pickaway County, it was hard to discern if small hail or just hard raindrops were hitting the van on the stretch between Adena Medical Center and Route 207. More storms hit later impacting several games across the state. In our case, thunder was detected 1:53 after the opening kick, resulting in a two hour delay. Play resumed at 9:05pm.

THANK YOU to Dan Bise, interim Logan Elm Athletic Boosters president, who invited our cameras to shelter-in-place with the concession crew while the storms rolled through.

AWKWARDNESS:

The coin toss… no more than one team representative instead of a host of captains to meet at midfield to determine who gained the opening possession.

Teams breaking from their offensive huddles, the center with ball in hand, ready to place it on the marker laid at the line of scrimmage by the officials. It just looks… weird.

Halftime shortened was shortened to 10 minutes from the normal 20-plus minutes.

No bands for the visiting team. There’s something about hearing the fight song played after a team scores a touchdown. It was missing. Teays Valley’s cheerleaders had the fight song on a boom box, but only played it for their routines. Perhaps other visiting teams will bring along a recorded version to fill that void.

Post game handshakes were eliminated. The teams lined up on the hash marks, tipped their caps, waved as the went their respective ways

It was indeed different, but was also good to be back!

Litter Media Game of the Week: Teays Valley Takes Logan Elm, 31-25

Teays Valley outlasted Logan Elm 31-25 to kick off the 2020 Football season… a season rife with uncertainty.

After weeks of preparation, not knowing if the OHSAA could hold a season due to the coronavirus pandemic, why shouldn’t Mother Nature present the next hurdle, right?

The Vikings and Braves had their game halted less than two minutes in.

Logan Elm’s first possession stalled. TV coughed up the ball on their first offensive play and the Braves recovered. The emotional high of the turnover was quenched when thunder was detected forcing a stoppage of play.

Following a two-hour weather delay, Teays Valley put together scoring drives capped by Landyn Brown with touchdowns for a 14-0 lead.

Logan Elm answered on a quarterback keeper by Conner Robinson to pull the Braves within 14-6.

Just before halftime, Tyler Love hit Cooper Booth on an 8-yard pass to extend the Teays Valley lead to 21-6 by the break.

The two teams exchanged scores in the second half. Robinson scored from 18-yards out to close the gap for the Braves to 21-12. Camden McDanel added a 28-yard run to put the Vikings ahead 28-12.

When it seemed Teays Valley was beginning to pull away, Robinson connected with Braylen Baker on a 21-yard pass cutting the margin to 28-18.

Cale Clifton gave the Vikings extra insurance with a 23-yard field goal for a 31-18 lead with 2:45 remaining.

Robinson found David Evans on a TD pass and Jude Braun tacked on a PAT for the game’s final sore 31-25.

Teays Valley (1-0) will host Fairfield Union next Friday while Logan Elm (0-1) heads to Hamilton Township.
