Huntington Volleyball Coach Tina Magill is retiring from coaching high school sports, confirming that to Litter Media’s Mike Smith.
Magill has a long history at Huntington, starring in multiple sports as a player at Huntington in the 1980’s, including a trip to the State Volleyball Final 4 in 1983. Magill was also the 1984-85 SVC Basketball Player of the Year and is in Huntington’s Athletic Hall of Fame for her exploits in volleyball, basketball and track. She started coaching in 1993-1994 as a JV Girls Basketball Coach and finished in 2021 Coaching Varsity Volleyball.
Tina also says she is retiring as an employee of Ross Correctional Institution on November 30th after 34 years of service.
In Volleyball, she was varsity coach in two different stints, serving as head coach between 2006-2012, then between 2014-2021. She was SVC Coach of the Year in 2011, won 14 sectional championships, 3 district titles, 7 district runner-ups and had a career record of (245-126). She was (131-79) in SVC play. Magill had winnings seasons in 14 of her 15 years as head coach. Tina was also a club volleyball coach at Spiketown VB Club 2018-2021 (which she helped organize), and coached at Southern Ohio Volleyball Club between 2008-2012.
As a Girls Basketball Coach, Tina Magill coached for 9 seasons as an assistant, and was Head Girls Coach in 2001-02, where she was SVC Co-Coach of the Year with a (12-2) conference mark, sectional champ and district runner-up.
Looking forward, Tina Magill told Litter Media she wants to spend time with her grandson and the rest of her family, continue working as an Executive Staff Member for Spiketown Volleyball Club, and possibly explore substitute teaching and/or become a volleyball official.
