Despite leading 17-5 at halftime, Teays Valley Head Coach Brian Barnett knew his Vikings needed to change up the tempo of the game, a tempo being dictated by a deliberate Logan Elm team.

“We made some adjustments at halftime” said Barnett. “And that allowed us to get the game a little more to our tempo. Once we got it to our tempo, our kids kinda took off after that. At halftime, they talked about that” Barnett said of his Vikings. “When our kids take ownership like that, I think we’re going in the right direction.”

What followed was a 20 point third quarter. The Braves stepped up as well, scoring 16 in the period, but still trailed 37-21 through three.

Teays Valley got 12 points each by freshmen guards Kole Nungster and Brody Fields and Ryan Allton added 9 from an active back court. Sam Miller chipped in another 11 as the Vikings created a 24 point cushion.

Such a wide margin wasn’t enough for the Braves to roll over. Brody Sabine scored 11 of his game high 16 points in the fourth period, closing the gap to 10. Logan Elm, plagued by injuries this season, kept after it. “We’ve got a group of kids that are gonna fight for 32 minutes” said Head Coach Doug Stiverson. “It could’ve been easy for our guys to quit tonight… our kids are gonna keep battling, that’s just the way they are. Really proud of their effort.”

Teays Valley remains undefeated through eight games in the Mid State League Buckeye Division. Logan Elm slips to 2-6.
