The Department of Veterans Affairs Promotes Federal Electronic Health Record

Article Presented By Kingston National Bank…

(Chillicothe) – Ehrnie the Eagle, Chillicothe VA Medical Center’s official mascot for the new Federal Electronic Health Record (EHR) is on the road. VA is implementing the new EHR system to store and track patient medical information. This effort is known as VA’s Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM).

The Federal EHR is now in use at six VA medical centers (VAMCs) and their 26 associated clinics and serves more than 188,000 Veterans. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced the complete list of additional medical facilities at which it will deploy the Federal Electronic Health Record system in 2026 under its accelerated deployment schedule.

The nine additional VA medical centers and their associated clinics that will go live with the EHR in 2026 are as follows:

Cincinnati VAMC-Fort Thomas (Fort Thomas, KY)
Chillicothe VAMC (Chillicothe, OH)
Cincinnati VAMC (Cincinnati, OH)
Dayton VAMC (Dayton, OH)
Louis Stokes Cleveland VAMC (Cleveland, OH)
Fort Wayne VAMC (Fort Wayne, IN)
Marion VAMC (Marion, IN)
Richard L. Roudebush VAMC (Indianapolis, IN)
Alaska VA Healthcare System (Anchorage, AK)

“We are excited to bring Veterans in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and Alaska a modern medical record system that will result in improvements to care, coordination and convenience. The Federal EHR is integrated across all VA and DOD components, enabling seamless data exchange while enhancing care, safety and customer service for patients,” said VA Secretary Doug Collins.

Ehrnie, along with members of the Change Leadership Team (in charge of leading a successful change to the new system), visited two Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) in southern Ohio today. They met with staff to discuss changes to the system, lessons learned, what’s coming up, and answered questions from the CBOC staff.

The new, common Federal EHR will provide a single, accurate, lifetime health record for Veterans and include their health records from the Department of Defense (DoD), U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), and other federal partners. For Veterans, this will result in improved standardization of health care delivery, patient care quality, and safety. The modernized EHR also supports a more coordinated experience for VA staff and clinicians as they care for Veterans and will improve interoperability with the rest of the American health care system.

The Chillicothe VA Medical Center is set to go live with the new system on June 6th, 2026.
