Three Washington School Students Advance to National Invention Convention

(Washington CH) – Three Washington Blue Lions have earned the opportunity to compete at the U.S. National Invention Convention:
1. Caius Thomas
- Category: Grade 5, 1st Place
- Invention: “Solar Sky Glider”
2. Remington Butcher
- Category: Industry Award, Environmental & Sustainability (K-4)
- Invention: “Plast-A-Block”
3. Alexandra Weller
- Category: Industry Award, Home Organization & Household Technology (K-4)
- Invention: “The Groovin’ Moovin’ Basket”
Additionally, Liam Camp qualified as an alternate for the national competition.
The path to nationals was paved at the state-level competition, where 23 teams participated in judging at Ohio University’s Convocation Center. In addition to the three national qualifiers, Washington had many student inventors awarded at the state competition, showcasing the impressive talent within the Blue Lion Family.

“The achievements of these young inventors highlight the importance of fostering creativity and problem-solving skills from an early age,” said Wanda Carter, a teacher at Belle Aire Intermediate School. “Their innovative solutions address a range of issues, from environmental sustainability to household efficiency, reflecting their potential to become future leaders in science and technology.”
The national competition will be held in June 2025 at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. The three national-qualifying students will also showcase their award-winning creations at the Ohio Statehouse on Kid Inventor Day in January 2025.
