Unbeaten Ready Defense Stifles Fairfield Union In Second Half For Regional Title

The Silver Knights of Bishop Ready used a smothering half-court defense to shut down the Fairfield Union Falcons for a 48-33 Division 2 Regional Boys Basketball Championship win Saturday at Ohio University.
The Falcons led 24-22 at halftime, but were held to 9 second half points- 2 in the final quarter.
Ready led 10-6 after the first quarter, but Fairfield Union caught fire in the second period with 67% field goal shooting to take a 24-22 halftime lead.
That quickly turned in the third and fourth quarters as Ready outscored Fairfield Union 14-7 in the third quarter and 12-2 in the final stanza. The Falcons shot only 3/9 in the third quarter and 1/7 in the fourth.
For the game, Ready shot 15/31 from the field- including 6/14 from the arc for 48%. They added 12/14 at the free throw line. Fairfield Union shot 12/35 from the field- including 6/12 from the arc for only 34%. They added 3/4 from the charity stripe.
The Silver Knights were led by Charlie Russell’s 23 points. Kaleb Schaffer had 9, Luke Roth 8, Josh Paul 5, Kaden Schaffer 2 and Uthman Sherif with 1 point.
The Falcons were led by Ted Harrah and Brennen Rowles with 8 points each, Ronnie Rowley 6, Caleb Schmelzer 5 and 3 a piece for Isaac Schmelzer and Caleb Redding.
Despite the loss, the Falcons out-rebounded Ready 24-17, but Fairfield Union committed 12 turnovers to only 5 for Ready.
Ready improves to (28-0) and heads to the State Final at UD Arena. Fairfield Union is Regional Runner-Up with a (24-4) record.
